2018 was a great year for video games, where many critically acclaimed titles were released across all platforms. As it turns out, these strong reviews translated into strong sales, if the NPD Group’s report on the best-selling video games of 2018 is accurate.
As revealed by Mat Piscatella of the NPD Group, these are the top 10 best-selling video games of 2018:
Not surprisingly, games that were disappointing to many gamers in 2018, such as Fallout 76, Battlefield 5, and Darksiders 3 did not make the top 10 list. It is surprising though to see God of War not higher on the list. After all, God of War was considered one of 2018’s best games, winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards and numerous publications. Of course, it’s possible that God of War‘s sales were hindered a bit by the fact that it is a PS4 exclusive game, whereas most of the games on the list are multi-platform.
Many gamers and critics definitely expected to see Red Dead Redemption 2 as the best-seller of the year, even though it’s only on consoles. Red Dead Redemption 2 proved to be the biggest game of the year by far, and made the top three lists of many 2018 round-ups. Red Dead Redemption 2 exceeded the expectations of most gamers and critics with praise aimed at its huge map, great graphics, and endless quests.
2019 also promises to be a great year for gaming, with some highly anticipated games being released this year. Some of this year’s biggest releases include the Resident Evil 2 remake, a new Far Cry game titled Far Cry New Dawn, Devil May Cry 5, and the untitled gen 8 Pokemon game promised for Nintendo Switch. It will be interesting to see which of these games will be the best-sellers for this year.
